Erik Hanberg

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to class on monday 23rd for Erik's in class presentation however I quickly followed up with other students on what Erik shared with everyone. I also looked into his website(s) to read up on what he has to offer. He sounds like a very busy person full of ideas & knowing this made me think of his line of work as very interesting but rather different for a change. I enjoyed hearing about the different types of models & ways of going about an online business start-up as well. Overall being in class I know that I would have really enjoyed this presentation.

Scavenger Hunt!!!

Our scavenger hunt internet assignment was quite the task. Looking at the internet you can pretty much find anything & everything therefore this made you think things through real well on some of the questions being asked. Our group worked great together and tried hard to answer each task effectively however there was one particular task that stumped us. Alltogether it was much more than I originally anticipated and can say that I really enjoyed the challenge!

What is Convergence???

The word convergence has several definitions when looked up however there is one particular one that revolves around technological value. Its meaning is the idea of technologies, industries, & devices merging into eachother as a whole or simplification of the two. So when asked what a concept of convergence might be? An individual can stop and think of how this has occured, for a simple example we can think about cellular phones. Can you think of something that has converged with cell phones? How about a camera, mp3 player, or even a navigation system. All three of these technologies can be found on cellular phones therefore representing a simplification or a whole amount of devices put together.

Physical documents Vs. Digital documents

It was only a few decades ago that majority of records were kept on file through physical documentation but with the help of technology we are able to have greater capacity & efficiency with both storing and saving documents. This is done by creating documents digitally, everything from written text to pictures & music can be stored through a computer which is one of the many ways that you can create digital documents. However there will always be one specific difference between the two types and that has to do with there existence, physical documents exists and are an object which can be touched versus digital documents which are non-existent and have no physical form.

Vanity Search!!!

In class we talked about doing a vanity search on our name over the internet to see what is out there on the internet about us. I recently decided to check this out for myself and was somewhat surprised about the outcome!! After seeing some of our class examples I figured there would definitely be something of me on the search but after conducting it I did not find anything, at least on the first few pages. So the end result was acceptable. Seeing that it already seems "big brother" like that everything is already out there somewhere on the internet I would have to say I wasn't too upset about not finding my information on the first few pages!!

Guest Speaker Mark Briggs!!

The creator of Journalism 2.0 & service software company Serra Media, Mark Briggs both an author and entrepreneur decided to take the risk of guest speaking in our classroom on Monday October 19th, 2009. Alright so maybe not your typical example of entrepreneurship but his overall presentation on Journalism & technology was very informative. Mark not only went over himself and what he has accomplished but also how technology has impacted journalism today. Coming from someone who has experienced transitioning times for many writers, his presentation was very credible. Having interest in both business & technology I especially enjoyed his talk on how he got everything started for Serra Media. All together I believed the presentation was excellent!!

Experience with Creating HTML

We were given a handout on how to create our first HTML page, however this was not my first experience with creating an HTML file. My first experience was back in a computer information systems class where learning how to make your own HTML page was part of course. As a refresher I decided to read through the "My First Page" handout & execute the simple HTML file. With the previous experience it was pretty straight forward in creating the basic layout. My only issue that I overlooked was making sure to save in .html and not .txt which I quickly adjusted when it would not load as a browser, a simple fix. Overall it was successful!!
